Don't be afraid to disappoint...

Something I tell my girls on repeat....

Never let anyone put you in a box.

......even if it’s family. Even if it’s their best friends. Even if it’s me!....

Sounds silly. Even reminds you of the iconic Dirty Dancing phrase, “Nobody puts baby in a corner!”

But it’s true.

For the better part of my life, I have shrunk down and conformed in order to fit into the small spaces or ideas that others created for me. I became the person people wanted or needed me to be. Different in different situations, but always fit into their box.

It’s not their fault.

It’s mine.

I chose to allow myself to be put there.

I felt as if that would earn me their love, admiration, respect, etc.

Guess what? It didn’t.

Temporarily, yes. But ultimately, it never was enough.

I’ve learned now that I cannot ever truly make everyone happy. And I shouldn’t have to!

I shouldn’t have to change or alter who I am in order to fit into this perfect little package that someone has created in their mind of how I should be or who I should be.

Listen guys....

The right people will see YOU.

The right people will NEVER expect you to change the amazing person you already are in order to fit their idea of perfect.

The right people will LOVE YOU for YOU.

They won’t set unrealistic expectations.

They won’t ask you to fit into their box.

As a matter of fact, the right people will tear open the box you’re in and burn it!

Then they’ll walk freely next to you loving every single imperfect part and learning how it makes you the unique and one-in-a-million person you are!

So don’t make choices based off of other people’s standards or expectations.

Don’t overthink your life choices because you are more worried about how it will satisfy others dreams for you rather than yours.

Don’t become someone so others will love you.

Become the person you were created to be and others will naturally gravitate toward you.

Tear open the boxes you’ve been placed in. Set those suckers ablaze and watch them become ashes behind you!

Then, you go burn bright and light up the world!!!

Don’t be afraid to disappoint.

Those people don’t deserve your fire anyway.
