Letting go of the past is sometimes the hardest thing to do. The good memories, the bad, the regret, the lost chances, failures, victories...there’s so much that we cling to and dwell on from our lives gone by. We say why and what if and in our minds picture the way it would’ve played out if we’d have said this or did that.

Sometimes we are looking at our loved ones lives and aching for their restoration or wholeness and we’re dissecting what they could’ve done differently or how we could’ve fixed it for them and on and on.

After a journey down that road myself, I can tell you that the best thing you can do is let yesterday go. Cut the chains binding you to the past and the what if’s and maybes. It cannot be changed or altered. You can choose to move forward and embrace what God has in store for your future. You can meditate on what He wants you to learn from your past, but not dwell on it as a burden. Learn and let go.

Just like God blesses us with a breathtaking sunrise each morning to remind us of new beginnings, He also paints the most beautiful masterpiece in a sunset sending us the message that this day is drawing to a close and no matter what has happened, we can find beauty and hope in it. We can have peace that the sunset is just a preface to what’s on the horizon the next morning...a fresh start.

My prayer for you today is that you’ll not replay the past but instead will take what you have learned and let the rest go. I pray that you’ll lay “what was” at the feet of the Father and let Him mold it into a new sunrise for your life. He can take a life in shambles and reshape it into something you never thought possible.

Letting go and looking forward is one of the most relieving and liberating choices you can make. And who knows...when you stop chasing the sunset, you may finally see what’s even more amazing on the horizon.

May your cup runneth over.
