Not my will, but Thine...

For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the Lord. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts higher than your thoughts.
Isaiah 55:8-9 KJV
So often we want life to go our way.
We want what we want when we want it and how we want it.
When it doesn’t happen that way, we tend to be upset, disappointed, bitter, frustrated (fill in the blank with the other negative, and dare I say selfish emotions). We complain and whine that God isn’t answering our prayer or that He just isn’t present in our lives because we can’t see Him moving, providing, doing, etc. and all because He isn’t doing what we want. We even question Him sometimes when this happens. Why Lord? Or why not? Our faith wavers. We fall into a murky pit of despair and again, dare I say, selfish sulking because “nothing ever goes our way.”
Stop for a moment and consider the scriptures above.
Trust me I’m not pointing fingers or preaching. Never am. Every message on here is a message I myself have had to learn or need to learn. Personal reflection that I like to share so that maybe it will help one of you not be as silly, sulky and selfish as me sometimes.
When we don’t get what we want, we need to extend a prayer of gratitude. Rather than complaining or feeling shafted, we should smile and know how blessed we are because God knows better.
We should reflect on the situation and understand that God is working in His way, in His timing and His will.
No offense, but while this is about you, it’s not about you. It’s about something so much bigger. And we need to trust that a God who can create such amazing things in this world can most definitely handle the grand design of our lives.
I am so guilty of being sad when life “hands me disappointment,” and I am ashamed of myself for thinking that way. Note that it’s almost always only disappointment because it wasn’t what I wanted.
Honestly it isn’t disappointment at all. It’s divine appointment.
So let’s consider Isaiah 55:8-9. Let it resonate within our hearts and open them up to what God has in store for our journey, rather than what we do.
I can guarantee this….His plan, His future for you, His life for you will be far from disappointing. It will be so much better, greater and more fulfilling than anything you could imagine anyway.
We should leave the masterpiece to the Master. Hand over that paintbrush, and let Him work.
May your cup runneth over.
