Not what I want, but what You will, Lord…

As humans, we have a fleshly desire for what we want or hope will happen in our lives. We push and strive for certain things. We pray for certain results or outcomes. We want certain doors to open and some to close. We want life to happen now.
But what if that isn’t what God wants? What if that isn’t what God wills?
One of the hardest things for us to do is to release control and completely surrender to the will of the Lord. It’s insane to even think about that statement. Why would we, God’s creation, struggle with letting go of control to the One who fashioned and made us? He definitely knows better, knows more and has our best interest at heart. He sees from a different perspective and loves us at a depth we cannot truly fathom. Yet, we cling so hard to the vision we want for our lives even when we know it isn’t aligning with His will.
That prayer you’ve been praying…Maybe it isn’t a no, but just a not now.
That change you’ve been hoping for…Maybe He is doing something different.
That relationship you’ve been desiring…Maybe He has something better.
The list of OUR desires and prayers is endless.
The answers to all are simple….HIS will. Not OURS.
Lay it down. Give it to Him. Let go. Surrender.
Not what I want, but what You will, Lord.
“I've prayed and prayed about it
And asked for what I want
But, Lord I've come to realize
You're God and I am not
So I bring you my desire
Believing you know best
And along with my petition
I ask one more request
If it's not your will, let it slip right through my fingers
Give me grace not to worry, for your plan will be fulfilled
If the answer is wait, then what you have for me is better
Help me not be in a hurry but be stll
If what I'm praying for is not your will”
